Luke refuses to go to the rally because he thinks something bad will happen, but Jen goes anyway. Not as many children that Jen expected to show up did though, Jen was expecting a few hundred shadow children to show up and only about forty did. The police murdered all the shadow children, shooting them. The police got rid of the bodies and cleaned up all the blood from the sidewalks before the tourists arrive.
Lucky for Luke, he is safe.
