If the issues are truly unsafe or unsanitary, the Health Inspector will close down your place of employment and issue citations. The issues need to be rectified and the business re-inspected before it can be reopened.

Depends. If its a restaurant, you'll get closed down for having dismal sanitation. Poor sanitation = Mark of a bad business.

In California,

Immediate closure for some violations that cannot be immediately corrected. Downgrade (inspection failure) followed by a later reinspection.

Or pass with minor violations noted on the report (but must be corrected by next insp).
