Why is glue mixed with strach is becouse the strach makes it so it will stick tougether. Without water it will be more like a ball of hard playdooh, not a putty that can be squished. The water makes it less sticky, and more liquid.
Absolutely no reaction happens, that's because copper is less reactive than hydrogen. ;)
By Annie B. Bond, author of Better Basics for the Home(Three Rivers Press, 1999). Borax, a natural mineral compound has a wide range of uses in the home, and I learn about more all the time. It has a pH of around 9, which is higher than baking soda (which is 8.1; 7 is neutral). It is a good deodorizer and mold inhibitor, as well as a successful way to kill cockroaches, fleas, and other insects. One of my favorite uses for it is as a toilet bowl cleaner and it is always my first choice for such a job. Learn here how I use borax for many jobs including deterring mice! 1. Toilet Bowl CleanerPour 1 cup of borax into the toilet bowl at night before you go to sleep. The next morning clean out the toilet bowl with a brush. You will find the job effortless because the borax has loosened all the grime buildup. Note that this method of toilet cleaning works very well for rust rings. 2. Flea KillerSprinkle borax on dog beds, carpets, and other areas where you suspect that fleas are hatching. Borax releases boric acid, which is a poison (note that very high doses would need to be ingested to harm a pet or human). 3. Mold InhibitorThis method of inhibiting mold is very good to use on areas where mold and mildew is growing but that you don't need to worry about paint being damaged. Make a thick borax and water paste. Smear it on the moldy area. Let set until dry (overnight or longer). Sweep up the powder, and rinse off the rest. 4. Mice DeterrentSprinkle borax on the floor along the walls (mice like to run along the side of walls). They don't like getting the borax on their feet, so they are less likely to return to that area of the house. 5. All Purpose CleanerPut 2 teaspoons of borax in a spray bottle with 2 cups of very hot water. Shake to blend.
It is basic or alkaline. On the pH scale of 0 (zero) to 14 with 7 being neutral, pure water has a pH of 7.0 at 25 °C (77 °F). Less than 7 is acidic and more than 7 is basic, since pH is the inverse logarithm of the hydrogen ion (H+) concentration in the solution. It can be expressed as where 'a' is the activity of the H+ ions, hence temperature does have an influence on measured pH.
Put it in water and see what happens?

Silly Putty was made by James Wright in 1943 when he accidentally dropped boric acid and silicone oil together. This was during World War II, scientists were looking for a replacement for rubber. (Silly Putty didnt make it as a replacement by the way)
You need: glue laundry detergent (liquid) bowl (or something to mix in) spoon (or something to mix with) food coloring (optional) Here's what you do: Put some glue into your bowl (the amount doesn't matter; you can put in however much you want) and add the food coloring in. Stir. Pour some detergent into the cap and SLOWLY add it while stirring the mixture. Put in more or less detergent to get it to the consistency that you want it. ENJOY! Tips: Put in more detergent if your mixture is too runny. Put in more glue if your mixture is too hard to stir. IMPORTANT: Store in a ziploc baggie to keep plyable and soft. You don't want it drying out!:)

Borax is perfectly safe in swimming pools. We started using it in our inground pool two years ago and would not use anything else. Not only is it less expensive (a lot less expensive) but the water feels softer when we use it. My husband had to spend some time convincing me that Borax works and works safely but I'm very glad he did. Our pool has never looked better. We had been buying every product that the pool store told us we needed (we did need it didn't we?) One summer they couldn't get our pool water cleared up so in frustration my husband turned to the internet and the use of Borax. We saved a bundle and our pool cleaned up beautifully. Hope this helps you.
