Depends on how out of date and how it was stored. It will probably work just fine. You might not get quite as much rise out of it, but you should get some regardless of how old it is.

Yes it is fine. But you will want to put an extra teaspoon of baking POWDER into the mix, so it rises okay. In fact I just made one with about the same date on Sunday for my brothers birthday and it was absolutely fine :)

There should be two letters stamped on the barrel near the proof marks, EB XM YT or such. I can date it by those, since they are not dated by ser #.
