Dickens came from a poor family. His Dad was sent to prison because he was not able to pay his debt. Dickens had to go and work in a blacking factory to be able to pay it off. Dickens tries to link Great Expectations to his own life through Pip's expectations, and the way working class were treated in the Victorian era, and how the upper class would look down on the working class.
