The animal that's been eaten has already used a great deal of the food energy it has consumed in living to that point.

As for the food energy (calorie) value of what's there at the time of death and consumption -- only a fraction of that is consumed (unless the whole carcass is eaten) by its prey and only a fraction of that is converted to food energy through its digestive process.
