Well, after the plastic bags get thrown away on the ground, they go into the ocean and kill a lot of animals. :(

if not recycled as they should be they are most likely sent to a land fill where they will decompose at an undetermined rate.(plastic has only been widely used for about 50 yrs. there for decompisition rate is undetermined) but as they decompose they let off CO2 contributing to global warming. in otherwords no one truly knows yet how long they take to decompose so as far as we know they stay in a landfill contributing to global warming and poluting our air "forever."

They clog up landfills and take hundreds of years to decompose. it's absolutely STUPID. use a reusable bag. they're better.

Plastic, I would assume.

Some municipalities don't recycle plastic bags, an option is returning them to a store/supermarket that has a bag recycling bin near their entrance.

They are recycled or dumped in s skip and unfortunately they hardly ever bury the bags.
