It all depends on which state you are living in. Each state has its own laws with regard to theft. In many states, the 14 year old will be tried in juvenile court. In most cases, the case is pretty cut and dry. Normally, the child will go into the judge's office with his or her parents, and the judge will discuss the situation with the child. In many cases, if the child seems remorseful, the judge will be merciful and order a small fine to be paid to the court. If the child has a criminal history, or seems to lack remorse, the judge can be more harsh.

3. Return the stolen item and apologize to the clerk from whom you stole
4. Talk to your parents about why you did this and promise never to do it again.
