When baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) reacts with vinegar (acetic acid) you get water, carbon dioxide, and sodium acetate (a salt). The bubbles that form are caused by the release of the CO2.

Here's the formula (if that helps).

NaHCO3 + CH3COOH � CH3COONa + H2O + CO2(g)
Its reaction is a Red bubbling stream of chemical coming out (Or blowing out like a real volcano does in REAL life.) of a bottle or a cup.

Well I haven't the slightest idea what happens when you mix baking soda and corn syrup. I have an idea though. Instead of asking, why don't you try it out yourself and see what happens, like a real scientist. You'll learn a lot more from it too.

When baking soda is mixed into a non-newtonian fluid mixture of corn starch and vinegar the volume of the fluid expands and the density decreases. The viscosity of the fluid in my test was reduced to about equivalent to marshmallow fluff (SCIENCE!). After the reaction settled the fluid was more viscous than before.
