What causes an exothermic reaction with alka seltzer?

Alka-Seltzer contains aspirin, sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and citric acid. When placed in water, the tablet dissolves. The baking soda in an Alka-Seltzer counteracts the stomach acid.
