No one really identifies any witches in The Crucible. They do not exist. Many characters claim to see/know witches. Some of those characters include Abigail Williams, Tituba, Mercy Lewis, Ann Putnam, and Betty Parris.

Because guy wrote a lot of words and it was all like not about really witches in Salem but about that ugly dude McCarthy and his scary redness about mother Russia.
She's an old lady who's accused of witchcraft by Abigail as she's an easy target since no one really cares about her and her status is so low.
Abigail is Parris's niece. Parris is the new reverend in the chuch, but no one really likes him because he wants to change to much. Proctor really hates him for this reason, which is why he stopped going to church.
No one is really sure at this point in act one, but everyone thinks it's because she's "bewitched." In the story they never give you a sure fire answer like; Betty is in this trans because for whatever reason so its because she is said to be "bewitched"
oki well in the crucible there were a few witness of the girls dancing in the forest which led to suspension. then the villagers were questioning the girls until someone confessed which was Tituba. just like any investigation they wanted to get the whole story so they questioned more people. the evidence was a poppet (little doll) that Mary warren had an left at Elizabeth's house. but that was really the only evidence besides lies the girls told.
Sen. Joe McCarthy led a zealous campaign to hunt out Communists in the United States during the 1940s and 1950s. Many writers, directors, and entertainers were unjustly blacklisted as Communist sympathizers, and as a result, they were denied work in Hollywood. Some faced fines, had their passports seized, or were jailed. Arthur Miller was drawing a parallel between the 1940s/50s and the Puritans who were falsely accused of witchcraft during the Salem Witch Trials.A.To write of real social issues in the hopes of making society confront them.
