An abundance of CO2 in the atmosphere acts as a heat trap, it retains heats rather than letting it radiate out to space.

∙ 12y agoThe Enhanced Greenhouse Effect is causing global warming. Like a greenhouse, the Earth is getting warmer because of the greenhouse gases. Burning fossil fuels like coal and oil releases more and more carbon dioxide. Agricultural practices release methane. The increase of these gases equals a warmer Earth, causing glaciers to melt, taking away Arctic and Antarctic animals' habitats.

∙ 13y agoGlobal warming has increased by people burning coal, oil and natural gas for transport, industry and to produce electricity. All this burning of non-renewable fossil fuel adds carbon dioxide to the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
We are also cutting down forests to increase pasture land for beef production. Cattle belch out methane, a dangerous greenhouse gas, and the logged forests no longer absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen.

There is still plenty of coal in the world so it is easy for governments to build more coal-fired power stations, without regard for the polluting emissions that are causing global warming to increase.
