The transmission has to be dropped first. then the torque convert/clutch needs to be removed to gain access to the flex plate, which can then be replaced.
No. The flex plate is on the transmission input shaft between engine and transmission. To get it out you have to pull the transmission. Fortunately, it's not hard to do.
The shift solenoid is located within the transmission on a 99 Montana. Unless you are very mechanically inclined, it is best to bring it to a shop to have it done.
Its somewhat of a complex and time consuming job if you have never done it before...........
I believe the only requirement would be that the motor be that same displacement as the Flex engine. There could be a problem with the ECU (PCM, computer) So you may have to use a non flex ECM.

On a 99 Pontiac Grand Am, you can expect to spend up to 500.00 on replacing your rotors, this is because the 99 used different rotors than the rest of the series. To replace rotors on your 99 Grand Am, you can expect to pay around $150. Take it yo your local NTB or brake store to get the work done, You can also take it to the dealership.

You have to remove the dashboard, then remove the instrument cluster. On the back of the cluster, you'll find that you can unscrew the bulbs from the back and replace them. I've done it myself on my own 99 Sunfire --- CanadianCynosure
The coil packs should be low in the front if you have a V6( just follow the plug wires). Yes, they are easy to replace on every vehicle I have done.
It is unfortunately in the gas tank. You will have to drop the tank to replace it. The average cost from a shop is $1000 -$1500. I have done it and it isn't fun.
I ran into the same problem with my 99. Turns out the handle is riveted on and has to be done by the dealer. There is a certain tool i guess that is needed. Goodluck
