two words: ice cup. Take a small dixie cup fill it 3/4 full and freeze. Unwrap the cup so the ice is exposed, and in small circular motion go from the front of the shoulder to the top where you feel the pointy bone. This may not be has effective as aspirin but it helps. Do the massage for a minimum of 10 minutes no longer than 20 minutes. Do it 2 to 4 times a day. by the way, this is not fun. It will Hurt and burn in the begining. Keep it up until the shoulder is numb and red. It gets a little easier as you get use to it. Good luck and I hope you feel better.

What are the uses of aspirin?

Buffered aspirin helps coat the stomach so the stomach does not get upset. The ASA (aspirin) portion remains the same, but because the coating is not fully gone until the tablet reaches the small intestine, very little of the compound is released in the stomach. Unbuffered ASA can cause stomach lining irritation, ulcer, and if severe the ulcer can perforate--poke a hole through the stomach wall. All of these effects can cause stomach pain and interfere with appetite.

Can the formula of aspirin be changed to produce less irritation to stomach?

Aspirin is "acetylsalicylic acid". Changing the chemical, changes the action. What is commonly done, is to coat the aspirin with a compound that does not let the aspirin dissolve in the stomach. This is called an "enteric coating". This helps a lot with stomach upset from taking regular aspirin.
