Independence Day is an American holiday celebrated every year on July 4th. Usually it is celebrated with a cookout and fireworks. The purpose of the day is to honor the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
The Declaration of Independence was finalized on July 2, 1776, however officially established on July 4, 1776. This is why we have Independence Day or the Fourth of July after this document declaring the United States independent from British Parliament.
The 4th of July is a holiday to celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence by the colonies from England.
