ADH synthesis is increased during dehydration as it acts on the kidneys to prevent water excretion. This is achieved by effectively making a region of the kidneys more permeable to water, among other things. Disorders of the hypothalamus can cause Central Diabetes Insipidus, where the bdy is unable to manufacture ADH and you will quickly become dehydrated if water consumption is stopped.
