Engine will not "crank"

Without doing a "hands on" troubleshooting of your vehicle, none of us can tell you specifically what is the cause of the problem.

Therefore this answer will be generic in nature. Here are some possible causes that I can think of at the moment:
  • A connector has become disconnected or loose somewhere in the "start" circuit.
  • Corrosion or road film has developed on the metal contacts within a connector or terminal connection.
  • A wire has become cut or broken.
  • The starter solenoid has become defective.
  • The ignition switch start contacts have become defective.
  • The starter has become defective.

There are surely other causes that I've overlooked at the moment. Good luck!

Over time you will shorten the lifespan of your battery. Once it's fully charged if you don't need to use the battery just unplug it from the laptop and only work with mains power.

It will start if there is enough charge in the battery to turn the engine over. However if the alternator is weak then the battery will not be charged fully.

Your ford 500 will stop turning over eventhough the battery is fully charged?

Our original battery had to be replaced about 4 months ago (we have a 2005 500). The battery showed it was fully charged --- but it wasn't. This was the original battery that came in the car. You might take the battery out and take it and have it professionally checked at a parts store. We thought something else was wrong with the car since it wouldn't turn over, but it turned out to just be the battery.

What keeps a battery charger from over charging a battery pack?

Most good battery chargers are automatic and will stop charging when the battery is fully charged. But if the charger is a manual charger it can overcharge the battery. With this type charger it is up to you to remove the charger when the battery is fully charged. Normally this is based on the amount of time the charger takes to charge the battery pack. Operators manual will list the time.

I have a 91 escort Gt that the lights won't come on and the engine will not crank over but the battery is fully charged and the starter is checked ok by auto zone.?

Sounds like a connection problem from the battery to the car. Easiest way to find out is to get a jump start from another car, if it works then it's the battery, if not then is either the battery cable or an alarm/immobiliser that is still armed.
