Sometimes this will work and sometimes it won't and that's a risk you are going to take. You should out with girlfriends and since you are no longer attached your ex-boyfriend then feel free to date other guys. If he doesn't get jealous enough to come back you will be a winner because you will have found out he didn't love you enough to come back and one day you'll meet the right guy.
