If iTunes doesnt show the iPod there isn't a lot that you can do with putting music on it. The only way to put music on it and listen to it is that you use iTunes.
When you open your itunes it tells you to download the new itunes 9.0.3 will you lose all your music that you had on the previous version when you download the new version?

You can't. The only way is to simply, just connect your iPod to your computer then sync your songs and play from itunes.

well, if you had problems with your computer and backed up your music then you go into the file that has the music. that's what happend to me but i deleted it which doesnt help me... on your iPod you can listen to the music, not on your computer. hoped it helped!
