Scabbing not caused by a wound, especially if it is bleeding (from scratching), is a sign of the mange and should be treated as soon as possible by a veterinarian. It can gradually spread across a dog's body and eventually kill it.

The scab MAY be a form of mange. A veterinarian should look at it to rule that out. Some forms of mange are horrible for the dog.

You can cover it with a bandage depending where it is or you can put dog bootie on it so it can't scratch

dont pick it or let him/her scratch it and dont pet him/her in that area because the movement of the fur could irritate it.
