That a young girl loses her way and finds her way back home after a series of formative adventures is what "The Wizard of Oz" is about.

Specifically, a cyclone uproots Dorothy Gale and her pet dog Toto from Kansas and drops them over the rainbow and into the magical land of Oz. Dorothy and Toto start out on the wrong foot with the Wicked Witch of the West by accidentally killing the Wicked Witch of the East and getting that witch's magic shoes. But at the same time they start out on the right foot with Ozites by ridding the Munchkins of an unjust, unpopular ruler. They experience similar extremes of pleasantness and unpleasantness as they make friends and travel to the Emerald City. They end up winning against all evil and triumphing with all good by helping their three new friends the Lion, the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman realize their respectively courageous, compassionate and brainy potential. They do not back down from their dream of getting back to Kansas until they finally are home once more.
