"Honigbiene" is a German equivalent of "honey bee" (Apis mellifera).

The honey bee population of sterile female workers and of male drones is ruled over by one queen in the hive. The queen is larger than all the others. She alone is capable of laying eggs. In the event of her disability, departure or death, a sterile female worker may take over as queen. That worker will be fed "royal jelly," which helps transform her into a fertile, dominant queen bee.

"Honigbienen" is a German equivalent of "honey bees" (Apis mellifera).

During nice weather, honey bees collect nectar and pollen. The nectar interacts with the enzymes in bee stomachs to produce honey. The pollen may be mixed with nectar to make nutritious, protein-rich beebread. Or it may be stored to get the hive population through the winter.
