ATF M V likely refers to Automatic Transmission Fluid Multi-Vehicle, which is a type of transmission fluid that is designed to be compatible with several different types of automatic transmissions. It provides the necessary lubrication and cooling functions for the transmission to operate smoothly.
atf for 05 Mazda 3 is any m-v
Yes. you can also type havoline multi atf and look at the specs. if your Mazda takes dexronIII or mercon V, it is. No ATF M-V is not Mervon V. Different Specs, do not use Mercon V where ATF M-V is specified. Here is a service bulliten that outlines this.. http://www.finishlineperformance.com/pdf/tribute/05-005-08-1928.pdf I would suggest a full synthetic M-V fluid that is compatible, and listed as such on back, alternately you could buy direct from the Mazda dealer, but they are not cheap, and I do not think its even full synthetic as Amsoil and Mobil 1 are for less...
Use Mazda ATF M-V or Dexron III. Either one is acceptable.

All AX4S/AX4N Transmissions currently use MERCON V automatic transmission fluid. The previous specification was MERCON ATF but Ford recently released a Technical Service Bulletin stating that all MERCON ATF fluid would be replaced with MERCON V ATF as MERCON V ATF supersedes MERCON ATF specifications. The fluid you must use in Ford Taurus Power Steering Systems and Automatic Transmissions are now MERCON V Automatic Transmission Fluid.
DEXRON II (as in "2")
Automatic Transmission Fluid I have a Mazda Protege 5, 2003- with 32k miles. Mazda hand book telling me to use ATF-MV. The dealer ship is selling this for $ 8.00 a qut. can you recomend a general ATF brand that I could buy at at a local parts store for less $. Also do I have to do a transmission flush or can I just drain and remove the pan and change the filter? Thank you. Jerome
Yes it can but remember not to mix oils
Mercon v atf
The formula for D m v would be D=M/V. This is the formula for density.
