Amazon is marketplace priced meaning that they really do not price they provide a range of prices based on preset attributes that consumers value and the market will bear. They can advise that the best price range is $x for an item based on the sell through. However their strength is the trust and control they give the customers in satisfaction and that drives the worst out of their business model.
It is less about their pricing because they really do not price and more about the trust in being able to get what you are promised.
