For Catholic Christians, salvation can be attained through faith and good works

However, many non-Catholics believed that faith alone is the basis of salvation and not good works as a means to a reward. However, as cited in the Letter of James, good works should be also necessary, but not a means to a reward, but as a natural response to God's love given to us in Jesus Christ.
