You have to be at least 30 years old and a U.S. citizen for nine years to be a senate. On the other hand for a to become a House of Representatives you have to be at least 25 years old and a U.S. citizen for seven years. Age for election, however, is not the only difference between the house and the Senate. The Senate has the power to accept or decline the people chosen to be in the president's cabinet, while the House does not. Both houses are represented differently; the House with regards to the population of the state (and with regards to different regions of the state), and the Senate with two officials representing each state, no matter the population. The term lengths vary as well- that of the House being two years, while that of the Senate is six years.
