In Australia, The 'El Nino Effect" causes drought, lack of water, dry season.
In South Amercia, it causes the COMPLETE opposite. It causes flash flooding, lots of rain, and causes the collapse of the 'Peruvian Fishing Industry' - which is the main fishing industry in South America.

∙ 11y agoEl Nino is a phase of the La Nina-El Nino southern oscillation, which is the cooling and warming of the Equatorial Pacific respectively. In an El Nino, the waters of the Pacific are warmer than usual, and due to the massive size of the Pacific, this can have a major impact on weather across North America and South America. El Nino doesn't have a direct impact on climate so to speak, but it causes significant differences in winter weather over North America. Currently we are heading into an El Nino phase for the coming winter, so the West Coast can expect a milder winter depending on the strength of the El Nino, and the East could potentially be snowier than usual due to the enhanced sub-tropical jetstream.

∙ 11y agoBoth are caused by prevailing winds that either push warm water west (El'Niňo) or allow it to move east (La'Niňa) which cools the western water. Air blowing over the water is either warmed or cooled by the sea temperature. This is what affects the climate.
