Evony is a browser-based RTS, or Real Time Strategy game. Its' genre is historical, and includes such things as Castles, Knights, Queens and Heroes. It is often compared to other similar games, such as Age of Empires and Civilization.
The aim of the game is the conquest of other players and the environment around you. To be able to do this, a player gathers the materials (Food, Lumber, Stone and Iron) which are needed to build buildings, research technologies and recruit an army. As this all happens in real time, such tasks can take anywhere from ten minutes, up to five or more hours. Evony is a persistent world, though, so the tasks such as the gathering of materials or research and building continue while the user is logged out of the game.
Evony's advertising campaign is often criticized for its' inclusion of scantily-clad women, though beyond the advertisements and other promotional material, such images are not included within the game.
As with all MMOs, there is an in-game chat which will, at times, include various inappropriate statements made by other players. The game automatically filters out words that are considered offensive, though, and does include an option for players to report other players for inappropriate and offensive actions or statements.
