It means carneval. In Germany we celebrate it with a lot of parties and processions. It starts on a Thursday where the people go with their nighties dressed to parties. In the parts of Germany where they celebrate carneval, it´s called the fifth season. The Major of the town has to give the symbolic key to those who celebrate ( mostly the 1st of the carneval groups will get the key ). Other things which happens at Fausching: Monday is allways the day for big procession. Tuesday the women can cut the ties of the man ( they better wear an old one at this day or none at all ) and on Wednesday ( that´s the last day of Fausching ) it´s the day where the carneval groups start crying and washing their purses ( the crying represents the grief that this season is over now... washing the purses means it did cost a lot of money for those carneval groups and now the purse is empty ). The day after fasching the lenten season starts.

Faushing always starts on the eleventh day of the eleventh month at the eleventh hour and usually ends in the beginning of March.
