Water lines BELOW ground
Type L or Type K copper pipe is typically used for underground applications. These types of copper pipe have thicker walls than Type M copper pipe, making them more suitable for underground installation where they may be exposed to greater pressure or potential damage. Additionally, this thicker wall helps to prevent corrosion and allows for increased durability underground.
Underground I use K copper exclusively..
Copper tubing comes in several wall thicknesses K thickest L medium and M thin There is also ACR , DWV
K copper.
The price varies according to the diameter of the pipe and the thickness of the walls. 100 feet of type K 1/2 inch copping tubing in a coil retails for about $250. Type K is used for underground water lines. 1/4 inch is about half as much. You can use thinner type L pipe indoors and it sells for about 20% less.
Type K copper is a thicker version of tubing. It is thicker for its use underground whereas the standard of Type L copper cannot be used underground. It is safe for domestic water supply. It comes in a roll, or in 12ft lengths. In some areas it is also certified to be used for supplying natural gas or propane underground.
This depends on the size of the copper pipe and what class it is. For example, copper pipe half inch class 0 and copper pipe class 3 have a wide weight difference because the wall of the class 3 copper pipe is much thicker.
