Karaunda is not found beyond Indian subcontinent so in English also it is called Karaunda. It is a white-pink small bird-egg like berry, very tart, used in Indian cuisine & pickles, scientific name carissa congesta. It looks similar to cranberry which is also tart but grows in cold countries only, not in India. Cranberry is totally red while Karaunda is dual coloured (pink with white). An another variety of Karaunda (carissa caranda) is called Conkerberry in English because it is also found in Australia. It is black, soft and sweet, very tasty among children, actually called Jungly Karaunda but simply called Karaunda.
