Kismet could be translated in English as "destiny" ...
Many Muslims believe that everything that is happening in their life, or everything they are/will be going through is ordered by Allah at all times, meaning they are restricted to the order of Allah. For example, if Allah doesn't want a specific person to drink, he can only drink water as is in his destiny, which is ordered by Allah. But this is a big misconception among Muslims, as there are really only two things that humans do not have control over: where they are born, or where they will die. These are two things that we can say are ordered by Allah, but all other things that happen to us -- or things that we do -- are not ordered by Allah, but rather, we choose them of our own will. But of course, Allah knows from the beginning what will happen to us, since Allah is almighty and therefore knows everything ....but that doesn't mean that Allah *controls* our destiny. Instead, Allah allows us to choose our destiny and Allah tells us through his messengers and books what is the right path versus the wrong, so where we end up in life will be in accordance with the path we chose.
