Kolbe decarboxylation is a chemical reaction that removes a carboxyl group and releases carbon dioxide.
Reaction 3, and 4.
Aspirin (acetyl salycilic acid) is prepared from salycilic acid and acetic anhydride; salicylic acid is prepared from sodium phenoxide and carbon dioxide (Kolbe synthesis).
Cellular respiration has three main components: glycolysis, Krebs Cycle, and electron transportation chain/chemiosmosis. There is a fourth component, pyruvate decarboxylation, that connects glycolysis and Krebs Cycle.
Acetyl-Coenzyme A (Acetyl-CoA) is the compound the enters the Kreb's cycle and reacts with oxaloacetate. It is dervied from the pyruvate, produced in glycolysis, that has gone through decarboxylation and has conezyme A attached to it.
Pyruvate decarboxylation -> Acetaldehyde reduction The product is ethanol. Pyruvate decarboxylation is performed by pyruvate decarxylase with cofactor thiamine pyrophosphate, and the product, acetaldehyde, is reduced by NADH. (Pyruvate decarboxylase is NOT the same as the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex in cellular respiration. Though pyruvate dehydrogenase also decarboxylates pyruvate, but the decarboxlated species immediately reacts with CoA to form acetyl-CoA).
Decarboxylation refers to a reaction of carboxylic acids and it involves removing a carboxyl group and finally releases carbon dioxide. Therefore,Kolbe electrolysis and Kolbe decarboxylaton are not different names of the same reaction.
Jim Kolbe's birth name is Kolbe, James Thomas.
St. Maximillian Kolbe's father's name was Julius Kolbe.
Winrich Kolbe's birth name is Winrich Ernst Rudolf Kolbe.
Maximilian Kolbe was a Polish Conventual Franciscan friar, who was also a priest and missionary. He was known for his dedication to spreading the message of Mary and promoting devotion to her. Kolbe's heroism during World War II, when he offered his life to save another prisoner in Auschwitz, earned him recognition as a martyr and saint in the Catholic Church.
