Medieval carpentry went through many changes in the medieval period.
15th century: tools became more like today's tools.
Different jobs in carpentry had different social status.
The art/craft of making and constructing objects out of wood : I am researching this question for my PhD. I believe carpentry started in England about AD 1180 in the South East. I have plenty of evidence for this. I am researching dendro dated buildings in Hampshire from c1180 to 1530 (about 105 buildings in all). Though there are many more houses in Hampshire, I am only interested in dendro dated buildings. The earliest vernacular house so far is 1280, but there are earlier buildings.
