Madame Loisel's reaction to the invitation to the reception was upsetting. Monsieur Loisel's thought she would be delighted and thrilled to go, but yet it was the opposite. "'What good is that to me?'" (Maupassant 226). She weeps over the fact that she has nothing to wear from jewelry to a lovely dress.
