malaria is an illness that is commonly spread by mosquitos of the genus Anopheles. It is a very serious illness, and kills approximately one million people a year. There is no known vaccine, and drugs to prevent Malaria are too expensive for most people living in countries where the disease is common. One of the best ways to control Malaria is to kill the mosquitos that carry the disease. Pesticides are commonly used for this. Sadly, one of the best pesticides to kill mosquitos, DDT, is also extremely bad for the environment.

How can pesticides damage consumers?

Pesticides are designed to kill pests by using of chemicals which are very harmful for human health. Pesticide exposure can cause a range of neurological health effects such as memory loss, loss of coordination, reduced speed of response to stimuli, reduced visual ability, altered or uncontrollable mood and general behavior, and reduced motor skills. Children are at greater risk from exposure to pesticides because of their small size: relative to their size, children eat, drink, and breathe more than adults.

Why do you use pesticides for fertilizing?

the pesticides kill pests, like worms and mice, which compete with the plants for some things from the soil like nutrients, and they also eat the plant directly, killing it. if some of the plants die, then the overall yield is reduced, the farmer makes less money, and the price of food could go up. if the farming is organic, then no man made chemicals can be use as pesticides.

What is the difference between old and modern pesticides?

Old pesticides, such as DDT, were typically broad-spectrum chemicals that remained in the environment for long periods of time, causing harm to non-target species and the ecosystem. Modern pesticides are designed to be more specific in their target, with reduced persistence in the environment and lower toxicity to non-target organisms. Additionally, modern pesticides often undergo more rigorous testing for safety and environmental impact before being approved for use.

Which would be reduced as a result of the development of pest-resistant crops?

The need for synthetic pesticides would be reduced because the crops themselves would be able to resist pests without the use of chemical interventions. This would lead to lower levels of pesticide residues in the environment and in food.
