At the Battle of Armageddon Satan will be thrown into the abyss (bottomless pit) for 1,000 years and will be released for a season in order to go throughout the earth deceiving nations to gather together against Jesus Christ to overthrow him. They will surround the Capital of Jerusalem and God will send fire from heaven to devour them. Satan will then be cast into the lake of fire to be tormented day and night forever and ever.
It started as it often does with pride.
Roman Catholic answer: The sin of Satan is pride, he wanted to be like God. God revealed to the angels, that His Son would be incarnate as a human being to save them (Jesus Christ). As God, the angels would have to serve Jesus Christ and all of His brother humans (us). Satan thought he was too important, beautiful, and powerful to serve a mere man so he said, "Non Serviam"I shall not serve. This is always the sin of pride, consequently, St. Michael the Archangel asked him, "Who is like God?" (Satan wanted to be like God in saying I shall not serve) and threw him from heaven. Pride is the root, the first sin, and the root of all the others. It is how we are still tempted to give the same answer, we will not serve God, and if we answer thus we put ourselves in Satan's kingdom, and go to Hell to serve him. Sort of a lose/lose situation.
Another answer: In Christianity Satan's sin is envy and hatred of man and he also first corrupted mankind and after his cast down he will cause the world to become so sinful that God is forced to destroy it. In Judaism he doesn't sin he only tempts man to sin. In Islam his sin is pride as he believes himself to be better then man and he leads a failed rebellion against God.
