This is an oval shaped shoe and is usually used on horses with pre-navicular and navicular disease. The frog is not supported, as the bar extends behind it
An orthopedic horse shoe is a shoe that is modified from the original U shaping of the shoe. This can include egg-bar, rolled-toe, or even heart bar shoes.
In my opinion an egg bar shoe is not an orthopaedic shoe. It falls into the corrective shoe category. It's main use is for collapsed and under-run heels and in the early stages of navicular. These conditions are acquired throughout the life of the animal. Orthopaedic shoes, in my opinion are moreso used for congenital deformities eg. lateral/medial lifts and extensions. When the collapsed heels are rectified a normal shoe may be applied to the hoof thereafter. Therefore an egg bar shoe is a corrective shoe applied to correct a problem and not an orthopaedic shoe, needed on a longterm basis, to allow the horse to move optimally.
it s a bar under a SB for Shoe Bar
A bar shoe is a variety of horseshoe with a bar across the usual opening of the heel.
