You cannot change the color of the font on windows notepad but if you click Format then you click Font... you can change the Font Font Style and the Size. If you really want to change the color try Windows WordPad or Microsoft-Word.
You can not insert an image in Notepad as it is a plain-text editor. If you would like to insert an image into a document, use Wordpad (the button is at Insert --> Image in Windows 7)

When I did it, I went into the little Windows icon at the bottom left of my home screen and in the little white bar that reads "Search programs and files," you type in WordPad. Then click the icon that comes up and you should be able to create a document. Be aware that WordPad is very basic and does not include key features such as spell-check and many of the other features you can find in the Microsoft Office product, Word.
Click "START", and select "Programs", then "Accessories". Both notepad and wordpad are in the accessories folder.
