I have a 2001 Chevy silverado with the 5.3 and im almost positive i have 3.42 gears
the 3.42:1 ratio was standard for that year if you look in the glovebox there is a white sticker with a list of codes you are looking for in the G section GU6 for 342 or GT4 for 3.73:1.. Also G80 is the code for locking differential.
Inside the rear axle.Inside the rear axle.
SAE 75W90 synthetic gear oil
you will need to use 80 90 weight greese in that
Same as the rear.
Yes it is but you will lose by the increase in gas mileage.
No you can not. The front wheel bearings will come apart and fluid will run out of the front differential.
It depends on the gear ratio of the rear ends. You can find this out in the glove compartment of your truck. It should tell you there. Hope this helps you out.
I would visit your local Chevy dealer's parts department. If you give them your VIN number they will be able to tell you the exact rear diff specs for your VIN.
You would have to install a gauge on the differential vent, usually located at the top of the differential at the left side
The rear differential plug is located on the inside top part of the differential. Where the drive shaft connects.
i don't know if its the same for most trackers but my 1999 Chevy tacker which is a 2.0L takes 80w-90 GL-5 gear oil... and it takes 4.6 quarts too...hard to believe it!
