Assuming you have the typical utility shotgun produced by the millions over the years (various models, has no effect on value), value will be under $100. H&R did market a single-barrel trap gun made by the Austrian firm of Ferlach that will bring considerably more. sales@countrygunsmith.net

I have a note in my database stating that this name was used by Harrington & Richardson on guns made between 1910 and 1940. actually : Bay State Arms produced firearms from the 1870's to the 1880's. Most of the shotguns were produced from 1890-1910, by a different company under the Bay State name. The original Bay State Arms Company was taken over by Hopkins & Allen about 1888 but was still actively producing rifles until 1895, and Harrington & Richardson bought the right to the trade name in 1907. Harrington & Richardson made shotguns under this name from 1908 until 1942.

Bay State was a trade name used by Harrington and Richardson Arms Co. on inexpensive pocket revolvers and shotguns. If in good condition, it may have a shooter's value. But there is no collector interest.

We could IF there were records- which there are not. The company was operating in 1880 in Worcester, Massachusetts making "Bay State Gun" branded firearms. In 1909 the company was purchased by Hopkins & Allen Arms Company of Norwich, Connecticut which continued to use the "Bay State" brand name on single-barrel shotguns. The trade name "Bay State" was also used by H & R Firearms on single barrel guns. Harrington & Richardson was active from 1872 to 1985.
An inexpensive shotgun made by Harrington and Richardson in the late 19th or early 20th centruy. . Value 25-150. Best thing to do is hang it on a wall.
NO!!!! 45 Long Colt may fit in the bore, but centerfire pistol cartridges run higher pressures than shotgun, and it could lead to a catastrophic failure.
