Nothing makes a building inherently "Muslim", in fact, many mosques throughout the Middle East were former churches or synagogues in areas where the communities had converted to Islam or where the Islamic rulers requisitioned the building as a mosque (like the Hagia Sofia in Istanbul). Additionally, mosques have been converted into churches in places like Greece where there are no longer Muslims in sufficient numbers to use the mosques.
