XL is the same here in Australia as it is in most western countries I've visited, including the UK and US (i.e. pretty big).
In Asia you'll often find that XL is more like L or even M, and you should try one or two sizes bigger than you're used to - I've noticed this to be the case in Thailand and Japan, to name two of them.
A UK 30E will be the same as an Australian 8E.
