a crawl
The American crawl involves further extension of the arm at the water-entry point and a faster kick, compare to the Australian, which is only of historical interest. What today is called the front crawl is the American crawl.
The army crawl was designed for one thing..survival! The mental toughness of holding our body and head as close to the ground as possible for long distances will develop a very strong mindset. Physically, the muscles involved are triceps, chest, core, inner thighs but the reality is that the body moves in an integrated vs. isolated pattern so the army crawl is a total body integrated movement.
