The US half dollars minted from 1796 to 1839. There were two major designs (draped bust and capped bust) with several varieties
You either possess a Draped Bust, Small Eagle Dollar or a draped Bust, Heraldic Eagle Dollar - both coins were minted by the US Treasury in 1798. Please let me know which coin you have and its mint state and I will be able to relay its present market value.

Eisenhower was on the one dollar coin, not the half, and they're worth one dollar.
Value depends on if it's a Walking Liberty half dollar or a Monroe Doctrine half dollar, both are dated 1923 and both have "S" mintmarks.
The worth is a dollar...
The bust is supposed to be liberty.
It's a Capped Bust Half dollar and average coins are valued at $50.00- $100.00
A 1821 Hald Dollar - aka - Capped Bust Half Dollar - in good condition (G4) is worth: $75.00; if the mint state is MS60, the value rises to: $1300.
The first Half dollar with any mint mark was from the New Orleans Mint in 1838.The mint mark is on the reverse under the eagle
Several different reverses are depicted on the half dollar coin: * Flowing Hair, Draped Bust, Capped Bust and Seated Liberty display a heraldic eagle * The Barber half displays a heraldic eagle, but a different design from the preceeding. * The Walking Liberty half displays a perched eagle. * The Franklin Half displays the Liberty Bell. * The Kennedy Half has the Presidential Seal and in 1975 and 1976 Independence Hall was on the reverse of the Bicentennial half dollar.
"Capped Bust" refers to the image of Liberty represented on the obverse of the coin. A similar image was used for all US silver coins between about 1807 and about 1839. This is a pointer to an image of a Capped Bust dime - the picture of Liberty is quite similar on the half dollar: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Capped_Bust_dime.jpg
Circulated coins run from $60.00 to $400.00 depending on grade.
A 1954 US half dollar has a bust of Ben Franklin on the obverse, not Miss Liberty. Franklin half's are common, if it shows any wear the value is just for the silver about $10.00.
