What is the fibrous covering or nerve sheath which aids in fiber regeneration?

myelin sheath.

Why does the myelin sheath have gaps in it?

Because the sheath is produced by several Schwann cells that arrange themselves end to end along the nerve fiber, each Schwann cell forms only one part of the tiny segment of the sheath.

What is non-myelinated nerve fiber?

a nerve fiber that lacks the fatty myelin insulating sheath. Such fibers form the gray matter of the nervous system, as distinguished from the white matter of myelinated fibers. Also called nonmedullated nerve fiber.

What is the sheath of the Schwann Cell also called?

Surrounding the myelin sheath, there is a thin membrane called neurilemmal sheath. This is also called neurilemma or sheath of Schwann. This contains Schwann cells, which have flattened and elongated nuclei. The cytoplasm is thin and modified to form the thin sheath of neurilemma enclosing the myelin sheath. One nucleus is present in each internode of the axon. The nucleus is situated between myelin sheath adn neurilemma. At the node of Ranvier (where myelin sheath is absent), the neurilemma invaginates and runs up to axolemma in the form of a finger like process. In nonmyelinated nerve fiber, the neurilemma continuously surrounds axolemma. Neurilemma is absent in central nervous system. Neurilemma is necessary for the formation of myelin sheath (myelinogeneis).

Would conduction speed of a nerve fiber be the fastest in a large or small myelinated fiber?

Yes. Myelinated fibers have a myelin sheath around them which keeps the impulse from scattering and on a direct path. This makes the impulse travel faster than unmyelinated fibers.

What type of cable should be used for a very fast network?

Optacal fiber cables are the fastest network cables in which the signals are transmiited nearly at the speed of light. they are very expesive because they are made of fiber glasses.

What are optical fiber?

Fiber optics are cables that are used to transmit data at the speed of light. This uis especially popular with Verizon FiOS services. for details on fios go to www.whyisfiosbetter.viviti.com

What is core yarn?

A yarn in which one type of fiber is twisted or wrapped around another fiber that serves as a core.

Why refractive index of core is lower than cladding in optlical fiber?

because in the fiber optics the transmission of the light waves are through core and cladding is to cover the core

How many core in optical fiber?

one

Strengths and weaknesses of an MM Fiber?

MM fiber is multi mode fiber.strength 1.more (fiber area cross section) light carry componet core is 62.5 microns2. Same cable can be used for both single mode and multimode transmission.weakness is less transmission distance 2kms (half of the single mode fiber distance)

Core of fiber optic cable?

Fiber Optic Patch Cord is used to interconnect Transmission equipment to the Fiber optic patch panel. we got 2 kind of fiber optic patch core according to the mode: single mode patch core (SM) and multi-mode patch core(MM). and several kind according to the connector: sc, fc, st, lc patch core etc.

Cable consists of inner copper core and a second conducting outer sheath?

Coaxial Cable

What is the difference between step index and graded index optical fiber?

1. Step index fiber is of two types viz; mono mode fiber and multi mode fiber. Graded index fiber is of only of one type that is multi mode fiber. 2. The refractive index of the core of the step index fiber is constant through out the core. The refractive index of the core of the graded index fiber is maximum at the center of the core and then it decreases towards core-cladding interface. 3. Number of modes for step index fiber N = V2/2, where V is cut off frequency or normalized frequency or V- number Number of modes for graded index fiber is N = V2/ 4. 4. V number can be less that 2.405 or more that 2.405 for step index fiber V number is always more than 2.405 for graded index fiber. 5. Step Index Fiber is a fiber in which the core is of a uniform refractive index and there is a sharp decrease in the index of refraction at the cladding. Graded Index Fiber is a type of fiber where the refractive index of the core is lower toward the outside of the fiber. It bends the rays inward and also allows them to travel faster in the lower index of refraction region. This type of fiber provides high bandwidth capabilities.
