A tool used to castrate livestock. It stretches a very heavy duty latex band open enough to allow you to fit the scrotum and testicles through. Then you simply release the handles and remove the tool leaving the latex band on. The band cuts off circulation and kills any tissue below it. The testicles and scrotum will fall off in a few weeks leaving a small scar. It can oslo be used on sheep and goats in castration, dehorning and tail docking. You can also dock puppies tails this way.

This method is normally used on young animales, If used for castrating larger animales a different type of tool is used ( calicrate bander, ez-bander ) they are fairly expensive. The bands are far tighter and stronger. It may be used on full grown bulls, but is overkill on anything that isn't too far along in it's development.

Elastrators are also used as a sex toy.

Dangerous? Yes. Playing is one thing, but making yourself sterile or accidentally castrating yourself is quite another. It's one of those things you can't undo, EVER. Think with your big head just once on this one.

Exciting? To some yes.

Painful? Yes, but that's part of the point.

The small elastrators ( ideal, sur-vet are good for play ( the ones that in the U.S. typically take the little green bands ) You can cause permanent damage or castrate yourself so be warned. If you leave the band on until your bits are numb and ice cold your really asking for trouble. There is quite a bit of pain so once you get off you will most likely be very ready to get rid of the band as well. Put a shoelace through the band when you put it on so you can easily pull it away from your body to cut it.

The large elastrators ( calicrate, ez-bander ) aren't really safe for play at all. The bands are very strong and the design of the tool takes all the stretch out of the band. It's tough and painful to get a stretched and crimped band off. The tools are really meant for the serious business of castrating large animales. Humans are small animales........

BTW it's not painless for animales either, they just put that on the packaging to make you feel better. If you don't believe me, try it yourself.

How do you band a young bull?

The method of banding depends on the age of the bull calf. If the bull is very young (less than 4 weeks of age), you can use an elastrator with the small green rings on the bull. The bull calf must be restrained and on its side with one leg held up before you can do this procedure. The elastrator has four prongs that, when the handle is squeezed, spreads apart stretching the green ring. Do this over the bull's testicles until you get right up to the neck of the scrotum past the testes. Release the elastrator and remove the tool, leaving the green ring at the neck of the scrotum. How do you band the testicles of a bull?

The process of banding the testicles of a bull is called "castration." It is typically performed by tightly applying a rubber band around the base of each testicle, cutting off the blood supply. Over time, the testicles shrivel and eventually fall off. This procedure is commonly done for the purpose of population control or to manage certain behaviors in livestock. It is important to consult with a veterinarian or trained professional for guidance on how to properly perform this procedure.

Can you castrate a yearling by cow elastration?

Since a "Cow" is a female their is no such thing as cow elastration. Yes, you can use the elastrator method on any size bull, but the younger the better. The tetanus and penicillin shots are not necessary because no skin is being broken that might invite infection. Banding is a way to castrate a bull by cutting off the circulation to the testes and making them gangrene.
