Perhaps the most famous site in Saudi Arabia is Mecca (sometimes spelled Makkah). Muslims believe it is the holiest place in Islam because it was the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad, as well as where he first received the revelation about the Qur'an. Muslim tourists come to Mecca by the millions; it is one of the Five Pillars of Islam to make a pilgrimage (called the Hajj) to Mecca during one's lifetime. But it should be noted that non-Muslims are not permitted to enter it.
