Flord is not an English word. You may have mis-read the word, and you mean a fjord. Fjord was not an English word either - it is Norwegian. Since Norway has lots of fjords and England has none, the Norwegian word has been adopted into English.

A fjord is a special type of drowned valley. The original valley was ground out by a glacier during one or more of the ice ages. This produces a valley with very steep sides, often vertical, and an almost flat bottom. These occur all over the world. What happened in Norway was that at a later time the whole country tipped over. The east of the country rose, and the west coast fell. Large numbers of valley mouths disappeared beneath the sea.

The sea entered the fjords and there are now deep seawater channels running long distances into Norway. One penetrates to within 4 miles of the border with Sweden. It is possible to stand on a rock ledge a few feet above the water in a fjord; then one big step and you are in 600 feet of sea water. Cod like deep cold water; fjords may be the only place where you can catch cod with a rod and line while standing on the shore.
