First, it goes without saying that they are worth what a buyer is willing to pay. With that said, if each book in the series were purchased individually from various retailers on Amazon.com, it would cost between $120-200 to put the complete set together. However, a quick search on eBay.com shows several completed listings of the complete sets that have sold between $40 and $80 plus shipping. It should be noted that there are 3 editions; 1962 which contains 16 volumes, 1968 with 20 volumes, and 1973 which contains 22 volumes. So, a fair price would depend on the edition, and the condition the books are in.

Old encyclopedia sets are worth approximately nothing (unless they're very old ... say, from the 18th century). If someone will take them away and not charge you for it, you're probably getting the better end of the deal.
